Find Peggy Martinez

Find Peggy Martinez
(Sorry for that last post, it went to the wrong place.)

Well, for those of you anxiously awaiting an update, we did find Peggy in a San Antonio nursing home facility when one of the administrators there went through the Red Cross database. Her story ended in April when she passed away suddenly in Picayune, Missisippi. All of the blog members travelled to Picayune and then to St. Bernard Parish for her funeral and burial.

Our latest adventures have included a new Canoe that we
got from Indian River Canoe at Mulch Masters on Jimmy Carter Blvd. We've only been down the Chattahoochee once, but it was very nice.

Marcia contacted Red Cross Family Line

From Marcia (twilson2@acm.org):

I've also contacted the Red Cross Family line to get her name put on
there and to put myself as a contact person. We found out today that
Mabel and Jerry Rathey were taken to Austin Texas by Coast Guard
helicopter - - I'll try and find some numbers out in the morning - or if
anyone else has ideas of who to contact there in Austin that might would
help.

MSNBC Database

I just entered Peggy into the msnbc reconnect database. I doubt it's going to be of much use given her condition, but there was no entry for her in the "looking for" list so I entered her in.

"carepathways.com"

I ordered a nursing home inspector report from 'carepatheways.com'. It did not have any useful information, other than to say it was a better than average facility based on the things they measured. As of 9/29/04 there were 85 residents (out of 100 beds). I have the printout if you want to look it over..

Trying to find owners of St. Rita's

Subject: Corporate Contact for St. Rita's in St. Bernard Parish
To:hssmail@dhh.la.gov

Hello,

First of all, I hope that you and your family are well. We live in
Atlanta but have relatives in the area affected by the Hurricane and
are trying to do what we can to help.

I am trying to find out if there is a corporate contact for the
owner of St. Rita's nursing home in St. Bernard Parish. Searches for
the owner of the nursing home have only turned up the fact that it is a
for-profit corporation, but not a multi-home owning entity. I have the
address and phone number of the facility itself, but to our knowledge,
it is under water at the moment. We hear by word of mouth that the
owners are the Mangano family.

We have a relative (Peggy Martinez) who was evacuated from St. Rita's,
reputedly by a coast guard boat. We have contacted the Red Cross, but
would like to let the St. Rita's administrators have our contact
information, as Peggy would be unable to communicate her name and
medical information (I understand that she is a diabetic). Her
husband, Jimmy Martinez, did evacuate safely. As far as we know, he is
currently still in South Louisiana trying to find her. We are in touch
with him occasionally.

Regards,
Eric & Amy Ayers (678) 966 xxxx
